A low carb diet is basically a diet in which you are taking a low intake of carbohydrates. Instead of carb, you tend to take a high protein diet such as natural fats and vegetables. Many studies have been done on a high protein, low carb diet. Studies have proved that this diet helps to lose weight and improve your health.

The main of taking a low carb diet is simply to restrict carbohydrates from your diet. Such as pasta and bread. The Atkins diet is a type of a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. It is also seen from recent studies that such a diet can help in weight loss.

Low carb foods that should be taken:

  • Meat: beef, lamb, chicken and all grass-fed animals can be taken.
  • Fish: salmon and all wild caught fish can be taken.
  • Eggs: omega 3
  • Vegetables: spinach, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage and many more.
  • Fruits: apples, oranges, strawberries, pears.
  • Nuts and seeds: almonds and walnuts
  • Dairy: cheese, butter and yogurt
  • Fats and oils: coconut oil, butter and olive oil.

The process of a low carb diet:

When a human body cuts off the intake of carbohydrates in their diet. They tend to burn their own fat because the body goes into a metabolic state called ketosis.

Risk of high protein, low carb diet

  • Cholesterol: some protein foods like meat and dairy product can cause high cholesterol. Which can later increase your chances of heart diseases. Many studies have explained that people on Atkins diet have decreased their cholesterol level.
  • Kidney problems: if you already have kidney problems and eat too much protein, you tend to put extra pressure on your kidneys, which may worsen your kidney functioning.
  • Kidney stones: when you are consuming a high protein diet, you basically urinate more calcium than you usually do. Recent researches have shown that this cause kidney stones.
  • Bad breath: when you take a small intake of carbohydrates in your diet. The human body in this case usually uses proteins and fats and turn them into carbohydrates which release acetone vapours, that make your breath smell bad
  • Constipation: The main cause behind constipation is not taking enough fibre.
  • Low energy: carbohydrates basically give your body fuel to work properly.
